Day 17: Hyderabad

Today is probably one the most busiest day we have had on the trip. It was pretty much running from one meeting into another.

We started the day with a breakfast meeting with Mr.Raju the Chairman of Satyam Computer Services India's fourth largest software exporter.

Mr.Raju explaining to the GSB team the challenges he faced in building Satyam and the challenges he believes he is going to face in the future.

We then met Mr.Rao the Chairman of Madhukon projects. Madhukon is a mid cap infrastructure development company with interests spanning from power to ports. He explained to us the various projects executed by his team and how he plans to execute projects worth $1 billion in the next three years.

Next stop the Fresh @ HQ for an insight into the brain child of Lokesh.

Lokesh officially introducing the brand Fresh @ and the management team to the GSB'ers.

Nell, Ohad, and Jasmine went back to the guest house to pack. They had a flight to catch. Umed, Ian, and Jimmy were out for some shopping, for whom we wondered. Dafina and Andrew went flying to get an aerial view of Hyderabad. Ed, Sarah, Whit, Joia, Allison and Lokesh visited the Satyam development center located 20 kms from Hyderabad.

We got to admit, it was more like a zoo rather than a software development park. Deers, ducks, peacocks, numerous species of birds to name a few were spotted on the campus.

After the Satyam development center we visited EMRI, a CSR arm of Satyam. EMRI is India's first emergency response center. Equipped with the latest ambulances they have saved 2200 lives by the 15th of August 2006. Roughly 11 months into operation. They currently operate 90 ambulances that are spread across the state of Andhra Pradesh. They also work closely with the Stanford School of Medicine.

After the EMRI we visited the Byrraju foundation started by Mr.Raju's family. The Byrraju Foundation was founded to build progressive self-reliant rural communities, with a holistic approach, by providing services in the areas of healthcare, environment, sanitation, primary education, adult literacy and skills development. The Foundation currently works to transform 156 villages in 5 districts of Andhra Pradesh- East Godavari, West Godavari, Krishna, Guntur and Ranga Reddy- and impacts 800,000 people.

Andrew getting a quick prep on how to fly in the Indian airspace.

The Cessna 152 that Andrew is about to fly. God save us...

A view of a famous temple from the air.

The trainer trying really hard to give Dafina a lesson in flying, while Dafina is busy taking pictures. Why were we not surprised?

The same evening Lokesh's friend Vishnu hosted us and invited 80 other second generation entrepreneurs in Hyderabad for a dinner at his place. We met people from different backgrounds ranging from infrastructure development, pharmaceutical, to banking.

This is the guest room at Vishnu's place and you guessed it we all wanted to move in for the night.

Allison: I don't care about the house, or the people the food is great!!!

The GSB gang with the key Hyderabadi second generation entrepreneurs.

India unofficial made Page 3 in Hyderabad. Now why are we not surprised?
